Randall Bills, long-time contributor to games such as BattleTech andShadowrun, is back with another amazingly compelling game that is attractive for wargamers and alternate history/steampunk fans alike!
Leviathans Online is a dynamic, immersive 3D game coming soon for tablet, browser & mobile platforms that will launch players into the skies of 1910. This isn’t just a steampunk game of zeppelins and airships, but a universe where many war-forged ships clash in the skies and the decisions of a single, brave sky captain can impact an entire empire.
Not only will wargamers, tabletop miniature gamers, alternate history or steampunk fans find the universe wonderfully immersive - but anyone can enjoy this dynamic, epic take on a key historical time in mankind's story.
Over Togo's head the Zed flag was burning. The pride of the Japanesefleet, the battleship Mikasa was sinking. His aide tried to pull him toward the lifeboats, but Togo stopped and looked up. He saw the battered Russian leviathan claw its way into the blue sky. And at that moment Admiral Togo Heihachiro knew that Japan would not rule the east, after all. And one more thing. The smartest military minds of the coming generation—Zeppelin, Jellico, Fisher and others—diverted their attention to the glorious new technological revolution and sea-going battleships were abandoned around the world. In their place, armored giants took to the skies.
In 1906, Great Britain launched the HMS Leviathan, the first of the “super air ships”, sparking an arms race around the world. By 1910 the most powerful nations boasted large High Fleets, and the start of small skirmishes left the world uneasy.

This isn’t just about making a fun game (though obviously we hope to do just that). Instead, it’s about creating an experience where YOU help to decide what the game will be like, what additional ships and factions might be added and more! We fully believe that those who play the game should have a say in how the experience should be.

Our team is made up of industry veterans that total more than 50 years of AAA and online MMO experience, and we are super excited about the opportunity to work together with all of you to make a killer game that would do the tactical & steampunk genres justice!
The game we want to make is humble compared to some current 'AAA' expectations, but it is still way beyond the ability of a small start-up to fund by itself. The restraints on the licensing and marketing make it very difficult for private investor's interest, but with some of the recent successes of some other veteran designers on Kickstarter, it is possible to consider making this project a reality.

Kickstarter provides us an opportunity to work with fans directly and impact development of a game's content while funding a portion of the creation. One of the things that we feel most strongly about, is that Leviathans Onlinecan set the stage for battles we all can appreciate. That’s one of the beautiful things about in-person tabletop miniatures tactic games which we are focused on bringing to our platforms.
We want to put that power in the hands of you, the players, we plan to create a scenario editor (early sneak peak releases for certain backing levels) so that the community can constuct their own sorties. When you upload your scenarios, you can make them available to your friends or the entireLeviathans community!

The high-level risks to the Leviathans Online project are:
COST: We are aiming to build far more than a complete digital version of the game experience set at the targeted $300,000 goal. We want to add features such as factional multiplayer ladders, battles, stats, and real-time maps, fleet challenges, online tournaments, tie-in application features with the physical game just to name a few. The limitations are directly tied to the level of funding achieved. Hitting our stretch goals beyond the $300,000 target can really make an amazing experience!
TIME: To ensure we deliver as promised, we will also be developing tool-sets for features such as scenario creation. Time is an enemy on all fronts to game projects, but with such a well defined game we do have an advantage of translating the original game mechanics and even polishing them in the online game versions.
COMMUNICATION: We will do our absolute best to update you on various levels of progress throughout the development cycle of this game. Transparency is one of our core values and we realize how important it is to listen to you.
