Poco os puedo contar de este juego, que entra por los ojos, con unos componentes y diseño realmente espectaculares.

Description
Prince of Wallachia, Vlad Tepes is a controversial and misterious character, surrounded by many myths and legends, which made him well known not only in Romania, but all over the world. Feared but respected, with no tolerance for injustice, lie or theft, he also had a darker and mystic side wich was an inspiration for countless fantastic stories.
The "I Am Vlad" board game allows each player to control a Vlad hero as well as an Archer and a Wallachian Knight, in order to become the Ruler of Wallachia. But the path to glory and power is not easy, as each player has to face many dangers and to eliminate all his opponents trough great battles.

Gameplay
The hundreds of playcards, tokens, figures, outpost buildings and the astonishing map design make "I Am Vlad" the best action-roleplaying game. Below we will briefly present some of these components, features and modes of interaction between players.
Starting the game
Each player will choose a color from the 4 (white, black, red, blue) and will place his figures (Vlad hero, Archer, Wallachian Knight) in his own base (of the same color) in the exact position, in corners. Also, players will receive the battle cards for each unit, one sheet each with unit's lives, the tokens needed to represent Vlad's lives and the ressurections of the captains.
After throwing the 6 sided die to determine which player starts the game, the battles can begin!
Maps
Gameplay takes place on the Game Map and on the Underworld map.
The Game Map is the board where all the interactions between players (including battles, movement and tactical positioning of units or outposts) will take place. This map has plenty of places and areas with different meanings, where players can perform actions that can and will affect their strategy and chances of winning. The most important area from the Game Map is represented by the fortress (occupied and guarded by ottomans), but players will also find churches, taverns, wild areas with dangerous werewolfes. So everyone has plenty of choices at any time: bells can be tolled, new items, cards or potions can be bought using gold coins, curses can be placed, just to name a few.
The Underworld is the area where Archers and Wallachian Knights enter once they die in battle, but only if the player still has resurrection tokens. Once such a unit enters the Underworld, it must follow a path and at it's end the player can resurrect it at his own church.
On the same board with the Underworld the players will find 2 dials:
- Time Dial, which represents the lapse of time in the game. Beside other purposes, this dial is very important because it is related to the possibility of engaging in battles of the own units depending of the battle cards owned by the player (some can be used only by night or only by day);
- Dial with Neutral Units' Life, will be used by players when entering the battle against the werewolfes or the fortress guards.
Cards and tokens
The game has 3 types of cards: Battle Cards, Magic Cards and Akathist Cards.
- Battle Cards are specialised on each type of unit (Vlad, Archer or Wallachian Knight) and can be either night cards or day cards;
- Magic Cards can only be used with Vlad hero in battles and will be purchased from any tavern (using gold coins); - Akathist Cards can be bought from any church and can affect one or more players (including the player who buys it) with good or bad effects for a fix period of time.
Different tokens can also be used to represent different actions and items like gold coins, impales, resurrections, healing potions, a church bell, a curse and so on.
Trough all these cards and tokens, players will discover abilities, characters and creatures, arms and armors specificRomanian territories (Wallachia and Transylvania) at that time.
Battles
There are 2 types of battles in "I Am Vlad", against enemy units and against neutral units.
Attack on an enemy unit - consist in using a single Battle Card, Magic Card or Impale for each of your units involved in the battle, against the selected enemy unit (the game gives you the possibility to attack with all 3 units one enemy unit, if it is in their attack range). The winner will be rewarded for each enemy unit killed (1 Crown for each Vlad hero and 3 Gold Coins for each Archer or Wallachian Knight).
Attack on neutral units - will take place only in the combat areas located near this neutral units. This time, you can use any number of cards for each attacking unit (they still have to respect the day/night time) until the enemy is dead. The neutral unit will respond after every card with it's own attack, shown by the 8 sided die. If the neutral unit dies in battle, you will also be rewarded with 3 Gold Coins (in case of werewolfes) or with 1 Gold Coin and 1 Flag (which will be placed on the appropriate symbol of that gate) in case of fortress guards.
Winning the game
Each player has 3 ways to become Prince of Wallachia:
- if he acquires 3 Crown Tokens (every time the player kill an opposite Vlad, he receive a Crown Token);
- if the player places his Vlad hero in the center of the fortress and manages to survive for eight consecutive game rounds. - if he controls the last Vlad hero left alive (death match); |
Why "I Am Vlad" may be the perfect board game for you
If you and your friends like fighting games with lots of action, battles, outstanding graphics and figures, "I Am Vlad" is a game you want to play.
But "I Am Vlad" is not only a fighting game. Strategy, card drafting, dice rolling, time track, point to point movement are also mechanics which can decisively influence thecourse of the game.
And if you are a fan of Vlad the Impaler and you like the mysticism and traditions from the medieval wallachian realms, then "I Am Vlad" is definitely the game for you.
