“This bounty hunter is my kind of scum, fearless and inventive.”

–Jabba the Hutt, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce Edge of Darkness, the first deluxe expansion for Star Wars™: The Card Game!

Expand your Star Wars:The Card Game universe!

  • 1 copy each of 22 unique objective sets
  • 11 light side objective sets
  • 11 dark side objective sets
  • 132 total cards

Competitive players can have a complete playset with two copies ofEdge of Darkness.

With twenty-two new objective sets and a total of 132 cards,Edge of Darkness allows players to battle for the fate of the galaxy as either of two new affiliations. The game’s Scum and Villainy affiliation allows dark side players to focus on reaping the benefits they gain from capturing their opponents’ cards, and their ranks include such notable units as Slave I, Bossk, Bib Fortuna, and Jabba the Hutt. Meanwhile, the light side’s Smugglers and Spies affiliation presents players with a multitude of tricks. Relying upon stealth and able to strike even while outside of engagements, these noble scoundrels gamble on strategies centered around high risks and high rewards.
Edge of Darkness draws heavily from the original Star Warstrilogy, but it also allows players to explore the events of the expanded Star Wars universe. Players will be able to recreate some of the canonical events from The Empire Strikes Backand Return of the Jedi, using many of the characters who appeared on Cloud City and at Jabba’s Palace. They’ll also be able to imagine new events like the infiltration of Nar Shaddaa by Bothan Spies and the brutal fights between Wookiee and Trandoshan warriors. Adding to the possibilities are new objective sets for the Jedi, Sith, Rebel Alliance, and Imperial Navy, as well as several neutral objective sets that add surprises and tactical advantages to any deck.

Illicit Gains
“Bounty hunters. We don’t need that scum.”

–Admiral Piett, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Filled with Bounty Hunters and the underworld bosses who hire them, the Scum and Villainy affiliation excels at turning a profit from their captives. Accordingly, Edge of Darkness introduces a host of new ways to capture your opponent’s cards and collect the bounties on them. You can reap additional rewards from your captives with cards likeJabba’s Reach (Edge of Darkness, 374) and Slave I (Edge of Darkness, 390).
This affiliation is not only capable of capturing your opponent’s cards; they’re also capable of stealing your opponent’s enhancements, manipulating edge battles, and “cheating” other elements of the game with effects that allow them to play units outside of the standard phase sequence, avoid focus tokens, or move focus tokens from one unit to another. The affiliation’s natural talents for treachery and deception are enough to bring a smile to the face of even the notorious Jabba the Hutt (Edge of Darkness, 375).

“And how are you doing, Chewbacca? You still hanging around with this loser?”

–Lando Calrissian, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
While the light side’s Rebel Alliance excels at quick, tactical strikes against dark side objectives and powerful Jedi can turn battles in an instant with their enhancements and combat icons, the light side’s Smugglers and Spies rely upon their arsenal of tricks to sneak through enemy lines. With units like Lando Calrissian (Edge of Darkness, 328) andBlockade Runner (Edge of Darkness, 323) that can combine with events like Let the Wookiee Win (Edge of Darkness, 321), the Smugglers and Spies affiliation plays to the gambler’s taste as a high-risk and high-reward affiliation that excels at getting the greatest possible benefits from its daring attacks.
The quick-witted members of the Smugglers and Spies affiliation bring more to the table, though, than stealth. Many of their units trigger reaction effects when they enter play, and others can strike in combat even when they’re not participating in the current engagement. Some, like Chewbacca, are mighty warriors, and others are capable of using their smuggling talents to liberate captured units and goods. When you play a game with the Smugglers and Spies affiliation, you’ll always have another trick up your sleeve…
To the Outer Rim and Beyond
Edge of Darkness gives players of Star Wars: The Card Game the chance to explore new adventures with the galaxy’s bounty hunters, outlaws, and gangsters. It also adds new objective sets for the game’s other affiliations and allows players to adjust their decks and tactics by making use of the expansion’s new units, enhancements, and events.
You can use the expansion’s bounty hunters to capture your opponent’s units, embark upon a smuggling run, or salvage scrap with Jawas that then run away. You can sabotage your opponent’s objectives, get rich from the bounties you collect, or confront a Krayt Dragon and a horde of angry Tusken Raiders. Star Wars: The Card Game is full of opportunities to imagine new dramas set within the Star Wars galaxy, and the new objective sets from Edge of Darkness add more to the game than new tactics and strategies. They add new dimensions to your experience with their new characters, conflicts, events, and stories.
Keep your eyes open for your chance to add two new affiliations to your games of Star Wars: The Card Game. Edge of Darkness is scheduled to arrive in the second quarter of 2013!
